Taught by n a bourke and Siall Waterbright, this weekend retreat focuses on exploring a range of different styles of poetry - from the pleasures of experimenting with closed forms to the heady intoxications of 'free' verse. Together, we'll explore the possibilities of writing across a range of poetic styles, examine the principles of creative poetry writing, and work on developing poems to a publishable standard while enjoying the rich play of language, metaphor and form.

As part of a small group, allowing for individual attention and feedback on your work, you’ll be guided through a series of readings, discussions and writing exercises. You’ll have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in your own work and gain focused, individual feedback on your work.

During each day of the retreat, there’ll be a writing workshop, quiet writing time, and opportunities for individual feedback from the tutor. There’ll be plenty of time to write, read, think, learn and grow as a writer in a relaxing, natural environment. Breakfast and lunch are provided each day.

All of your meals are provided over the weekend.

What’s Included?

The poetry writing weekend retreat includes all readings, feedback, accommodation and meals.

We can help you arrange transport to and from Olvar Wood, including airport transfers or a lift from the local railway station. There is plenty of parking at Olvar Wood if you choose to drive.

All meals are catered are either onsite or at local restaurants.

COST

This weekend retreat costs $550.00. The cost includes all tuition materials, readings, accommodation, feedback and meals.

Friends of Olvar receive a 20% discount.

QWC members, card-holding pensioners and fulltime students receive a 10% discount.
