At Olvar, we offer you the support of professional and experienced mentors and tutors; the opportunity to become part of a vibrant writing community; and the luxury of a retreat dedicated to the craft of writing.
You can visit Olvar on your own, or with others; you can participate in a five-week course to grow your new writing project, or a weekend or week-long intensive to stimulate new ideas or push your writing to the next level. We can also work with you to develop a retreat to suit the needs of you or your writing group.
Whether you're just starting out on your writing adventure, or have your heart set on winning the Booker, Olvar can offer you a place to dream, a place to learn, and - most of all - a place to write.
Classic and hermit retreats include personal feedback on your writing and include breakfast, meetings with the mentors, and accommodation.
Intensive retreats run for a weekend or a week and include a manuscript appraisal, daily writing workshops, all workshop materials, individual feedback sessions, a group outing, evening readings, breakfast and lunch each day as well as two dinners and accommodation.

Five week courses include four weeks of group-based teaching and mentorship, culminating in a one-week intensive retreat at Olvar Wood. In 2009, there will be courses focusing on biography, crime, literary fiction, children's, wild and speculative fiction writing.
