Indie Adams blew the rest of the poets off the stage with her combination of strength and vulnerability. This short piece was inspired by the lovely\u00a0artwork by the Polish artist,\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><a href=\"http:\/\/alenkopera.com\" target=\"_blank\">Tomasz Alen Kopera<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Indie Adams\u00a0lives\u00a0on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Her work is largely influenced by her life, and the lives of people around her, as well as social issues, and any topic or issue that takes her interest. Her work is often dark and gritty, reflective, and at times humourous. She has been performing since late 2012, and can be seen adorning the stage\u00a0every month at the <a href=\"http:\/\/sunshinecoastspokenword.com\">Sunshine Coast Spoken Word<\/a> gigs held in Montville, organised\u00a0by the award-winning performance poet Robin (Archie) Archbold. She also\u00a0performs at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PoetsCornerMaroochydore\">Poet\u2019s Corner in Maroochydore<\/a> every second Saturday of the Month, with John Wainwright, co-runner of Brisbane\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/speedpoets.com\">speedpoets<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>We carry the spirits of the world within us<br \/>\nstories lost through the sinking sands of the ages<br \/>\nand those yet untold<br \/>\nwords skittering across the Earth<br \/>\nborn of a language no mortal can understand<\/p>\n<p>I am earth<br \/>\nconnected through my roots<br \/>\nto my brothers and sisters<br \/>\neternal observers of evolution<br \/>\nwe crack open and give birth<br \/>\nto all that breathes<br \/>\ngrowing wings to set flight to eagles<br \/>\nas endless creatures crawl<br \/>\nand slither across our skin<br \/>\nin a temporal caress<br \/>\nus loving them as they love us so briefly<br \/>\nan exquisite eternity felt in a heartbeat<br \/>\nbefore we fall to metal and ash<br \/>\nand creatures so tall<br \/>\nthey have never learnt how to breathe<\/p>\n<p>We move with the wind<br \/>\nheeding the war cries of our ancestors<br \/>\nthe ones that claimed this land<br \/>\nas our birthright<br \/>\nbereft now of the life<br \/>\nit has known<\/p>\n<p>Fire renew us<br \/>\nwater sate us<br \/>\nsooth our scorched flesh<br \/>\nand bring new life into this world<br \/>\nof barren plains<br \/>\nabsent of our love<br \/>\nof our touch<br \/>\nand let us reclaim the lives<br \/>\ntaken from us<br \/>\nwrenched from our skin<br \/>\nand replaced with death<br \/>\ndeath of soul and spirit and breath<\/p>\n<p>Our time will come again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s guest post is brought to you by a young performance poet I first met at a strange little poetry gig at Rick&#8217;s Garage in Palmwoods.
